We couldn't wait to grow up.

Lollipops turn into cigarettes.
Homework goes into the trash.
Mobile phones are being used in class.
Detention becomes suspension.
Soda becomes vodka.
Bikes become cars.
Kisses turn into sex.
Remember when getting high meant swinging on the playground?
When protection meant wearing a helmet?
When the worst things you could get from boys were cooties?
Race issues were about who ran the fastest.
War was only a card game.
The only drug you knew was cough medicine.
Wearing a skirt didn’t make you a slut.
The only things that hurt you were skinned knees.
And goodbyes only meant until tomorrow?

The Body and the Heart

One day, the Body asked the Heart, When I’m hurt the doctor heals it, but if you’re hurt then who will heal you? Then the Heart said, I have to heal by myself. The Body then asked is it because of that whenever someone is hurt they have their own special way of healing it? Whether it be drinking, smoking, singing, releasing anger, laughing, crying, or the worst thing, just ignoring that pain? The Body then asked the Heart, What is your special way of healing? The Heart said, I don’t know yet, but I want to find it soon because I’m in so much pain.
